Introducing Yamaha Approved & Certified Reconditioned U Series upright pianos

Sourced directly from Yamaha, we always have a range of reconditioned Yamaha U1 & U3 upright pianos in stock and ready for selection. Reconditioned by Yamaha's Piano Technical Services division in Japan and provided with a 5 year manufacturer-backed warranty along a certificate of authenticity, there is no better way of buying a second hand Yamaha U Series upright piano.

The Yamaha U series has been around since as early as 1954, and has become a staple wherever a top quality, robust and reliable upright is required. Found in school practice rooms, conservatoires, teaching studios, recording studios and private homes all over the world, the U1 and U3, at 121cm and 131cm tall respectively, have become a yard stick against which all other manufacturer's uprights are measured.

To ensure long term reliability Yamaha seasons their acoustic pianos specially for the region of the world where they are destined, and consequently sources their reconditioned U Series upright pianos in Europe. These used, mostly ex-lease instruments are shipped to Japan where the perishable components including hammer felts, loop cords, tapes, checking leathers, jack notches, and many more are replaced, along with keytops, with the polished ebony cabinetry buffed to perfection and repairs made where necessary. Thoroughly checked and tested by Yamaha's technicians, a certificate of authenticity is then issued and the instrument shipped back to Europe to be sold with a five year Yamaha warranty.

Over the years, Yamaha's constant innovation in both design and manufacturing techniques has continued development of the U Series, with many model generations available, each better than the last, from early U1E and U3E models to todays' U1Q and U3SQ.

We select almost exclusively U1H and U3H models, which were produced between 1972 and 1981. This was considered a particularly fertile period for Yamaha, with lots of instruments produced and the pianos of particularly high quality, making them perfect candidates for reconditioning some 45-50 years on. We always have U1H and U3H models available to purchase, each thoroughly set up by our house technician and ready for fast delivery. Less commonly available are the 1980's U1M and U3M, which do have a slightly better bass quality than the H generation however were made only between 1981 and 1983 - if these appear in stock then best move quickly - these pianos sell fast!

While not quite as refined as a new U1Q and U3SQ, our reconditioned models are less than half the price, making this a very good value way of owning a Japanese-built Yamaha piano. Also worth looking at is the new Yamaha b3, which benefits from the same hammers and frame as a new U1, but produced in Indonesia where manufacturing is more cost effective.
